My Health Journey
In 2016, I ended up in the hospital due to debilitating pain in my abdomen. It turned out that I had a ruptured ovarian cyst. This incident was the beginning of several years filled with pain, bloating, fatigue, and unexpected trips to the ER. I was finally diagnosed with endometriosis and referred to a gynecologist for further testing. I was shocked to find out that I had a 15cm endometrioma, also known as a chocolate cyst. I was told that I needed surgery and would need to be on birth control pills afterward to control my symptoms.
Well, I didn’t like that option. I knew there had to be another way to help my body. As a student of naturopathic medicine, I strongly believed in the body’s ability to heal itself. I launched into a deep study of endometriosis and sought help from many different naturopathic doctors and interns in my network, for whom I am infinitely grateful. I changed my diet, started taking some key supplements, and went part-time in school to manage stress.
Flash forward to 2020: the results of my latest ultrasound showed that my 15cm endometrioma had shrunk drastically. The gynecologist was shocked and wrote down the names of the supplements I was taking. She also let me know that I would no longer need surgery or birth control pills. In that moment, I felt a sense of complete clarity and was reminded of why I ventured into the study of alternative medicine in the first place.
